Italian food

Lots of thing are going on.
Tonight I'll go to a cookery-class. Learning to cook Italian food.
I have recorded 14 songs. I'll try to release a secret CD at the end of the summer.
Ow and I think I will be disconnected from internet next month.
I want to live without it for a while. I'll try to post blogs as much as possible, but I guess not as regulary as I do now.

Tour map Europe

I made a very detailed route-map of the John Dear Mowing Club touring in Europe the last couple of years.
I learned we play the most frequent in Frankfurt. One day I'll make the same kind of map of the Mowingclub in America.

The state of denial

I'm not a political person.

The only song I wrote, influenced by a political event was 'The Hole In The Heart'
Written after the re-election of our current Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
It's an intuitive thing. Confirmed by this Documentary (Dutch) I saw on the internet.

There’s a hole in the heart
It’s 5 inches big
You can stick your hand through it.
There’s a hole in the heart
And it’s floating around
There’s no way you can see it

An impression

Yesterday I invited the great Henk de Kat.
The video contains an umixed, raw fragment of the new song.

Erik Quint

Hey, here's the recently published article(Dutch) by Erik Quint about Melleville.
Check his website he had some interesting interviews with Nick Cave for example.

Remark afterwards: the time between the release of the 6 Single/Silkscreens will be longer than 2 months.

Flash Frustration

It's getting me crazy this flash movie. Almost tore the screen from my laptop.
The drawings are finished but nothing moves the way i want it to move. A washing machine I want to grow big is just getting smaller and the music layer just won't stop repeating the song. This is just a fraction. I asked for help from higher hand.
I have to calm down, let it be and better just concentrate on recording another song.

Ow and excuse me for the sound from the former blog. You have to deal with it a while.

flash introduction

I'm making a flash movie for the 'Secrest are like Gasoline" song.
First an introduction, so after hours of buttonpushing, here it is.
It's the first time I imported real drawings in a movie. (no mouse drawings this time.)
Can't figure out how to use just the outlines of these drawings and not the whole 'paper'...
Now the circle is broken by the wolves 'paper'.
Maybe someone can help me out here?
I'll present the videoclip in a million years.

back home

Felt strange singing:
"I hurt my knee today
I did hurt like hell
felt worse than Jesus on his cross
I hurt my knee today.
"
With 3 jesusses hanging behind me.
It's not about blasphemy, its about little things that hurt big.
I liked it overthere, you should have been there.
Back home. now. After driving too long.

Elmshorn 1

I. (strange lay-out, strange computer)

We play in one of the most beautiful places we ever played in. The St. Nikolai Church in Elmshorn.

We start late so now we'll wait in a house. It's like a movieset from an old Columbo episode. A rich aunt's house and the aunt is gone!

I feel like a burgIer.

Took a bath. A luxuary now, I once owned a bath and I hated it.

Mowing Rob is kind of restless. Strolling through the house like a mad housekeeper.

I almost feel lika a popstar and enjoy the thought of playing in the church later on. The ceiling, the walls, the stools everthing is painted with religious figures. I think the music will fit overthere. Again I'm thankfull that writing some songs brought me overhere. But I have to be careful, these things may disappoint in the end..to be continued...

George Michael spoiled the word 'Faith'

Tomorrow I'll go with Mowing Rob to Elmshorn in Germany. We'll play in a church.
What's with churches lately? Art shows in churches, music shows in churches.
Maybe the Lord returned in my missionary organ.
Suddenly I remember going to a record store asking (read stuttering for minutes) for Michael Fath records. A guitarist I liked in another life.
Michael Fath? The owner asked, George Michael you mean with his record 'Faith'.
God, I hated life.

They're on their way!

The first load of silkscreen/7inches are on their way. The post office girl sighted when I put the pile on her desk.
Come on it's fun I said, look at all those countries, and she started to work her way through the envelopes.
The queue behind me started to grow with angry looking people, so I ended up weighting and putting the stamps on myself.
But....they're on their way!

21 july 1990 The Wall

Thanks for mailing these 'old' concert tickets. Made me dig through mine again. (picture is gone)
Here's The Wall. 21 july 1990 Berlin.
After standing in a crowded train for a long time I remember walking through former east Berlin. With a friend and a bottle of wine. Like in a dream.
The volume of the concert was very low. The public was shouting 'LOUDER!...LOUDER!' the whole time. That's about the only thing about the concert I remember.

Sunday 15 March 2009

First owner Erwin

The first copy of the dancing devils silkscreen and 7 inch, I gave to Erwin Smitskamp. We really had a lot of fun recording the B-side 'Secrets Are Like Gasoline'. We discovered we both visited the legendary KISS concert with Iron Maiden as support act in the Groenoordhal in leiden, 1980. I was 8 and can't remember anything except the large mass of people.

ps. When the envelopes arrive I'll post the ordered copies.

Spot Festival

Hi Melle

We have an offer for JDMC:
The date is thursday the 21st of May.

Melle, let me know if you can go to Aarhus (DK) on the 21st May to play Spot festival.
It's one of the bigger showcase festivals with thousands of business people from all over Europe to discover what is hot in Europe...
Cheers
Hotellounge

Luke Skywalker

After drawing many Luke Skywalkers...Luke's face just didn't work out the way I wanted. I really got annoyed and destroyed the face of the last Luke.
Then I realized, maybe a childhood hero should have the face of the kid who admires him/her.
I kinda like the faceless Luke.
Ow here's a link to blog-art.nl (Dutch) they asked me to describe the surplus-value (sjezus wat een woord, meerwaarde) of my weblog.

Thursday 12 March 2009

They're here! They're here!

Finally the 7 inches arrived and they are beautiful!
The next step is to find some good solid envelopes, then sign and number the silkscreens and number the 7 inches.
That will take a while. I'll try to post them next week.

Wednesday 11 March 2009

The Dukes of Hazzard

Here's the first one of a serie of drawings I wanted to draw for a long time, depicting childhood heroes.

Tuesday 10 March 2009

Vader and Spiderman

They could say to each other things like:
-I don't care what anyone says, darling, I know you love me.
-That's what you think, Vader....
or
Oh, Vader--I should hate you for what you're doing to me--but I can't help loving you...

Dear John

I wrote a new song. Its called Dear John.
It about a man who's digging up a girls dead body and cleans it with a letter she once wrote to him.
The birds are watching him with their little flashlights.
Agent Cooper is following him for years. Finally he can catch him in the act and calls for help.
10.000 police cars arrive with sirenes and flashing lights.
The birds are scared to death an hide behind their wings and in their trees.

When its a little less cold in my studio I'll record it.

A wolf among deers

An art show in the Big Church in Emmen. Together with my good friend Jeroen Allart.
Because I've got the smallest picture, I'm gonna hang devils in that Church!

The 7-inches are pressed

The 7inch singles are finally pressed!
They will be delivered to my house soon.
Can't wait.
The pre-selling went well. So if you want one don't wait too long.

Aschaffenburg, Germany

Back home. In Aschaffenburg, seaching for the hotel we were attacked by vampires, but we escaped.
It was a sad hotel. A hotel that does not want to be a hotel anymore.
But the show at the Roadtracks festival was great. Now I'm tired.
The next month I will be drawing drawings for this artshow in April. I'll write about it.
Ow and here Mowing Marcel's tour photos!

Vevey, Switzerland

Vevey, a little piece of heaven near the French border.
The venue is called Rocking chair and they serve a healthy meal.
After the show we had a good time talking and drinking with the people who worked there.

more photos: here
Here they talk French. The German talking people in Rorschach warned us for them. They were wrong.
These people were so kind, the thought raised the swiss government ordered them to treat us nice. Because of my negative log about Zurich the whole Swiss tourist industry stagnated.
So, I ask to the Mowingclub readers to stop their Switzerland boycot.
The only thing...the high diesel prices. We calculated and tanked just enough to cross the German border.
Proud and high fiving we made it to Germany to find out the Swiss have different money. The diesel was much cheaper in Switserland.
